Going to a Sushi Restaurant! (Eve. 23rd April 2014)

Yesterday evening, we went to a sushi restaurant, with conveyer belts and everything! It’s almost completely automated. To start, you click on a screen to say how many people are in your party; then when your number is called, a server seats you. You can order up to 5 things at a time from the computer at your table, and the food comes round on the conveyor belt (The computer tingles when your food is approaching you so you don’t miss it). Then when you’re finished, you press a button to summon a server, who then tallies up each persons plates to work out how much everyone owes. They then hand you a small plastic card which gets scanned at the till when you pay! The whole thing was just effortlessly efficient, it didn’t feel forced, it just worked. And my whole meal (2 pieces of fatty tuna nigiri, 2 pieces of normal tuna nigiri, 4 fried pumpkin slices and an apple juice) only came to ¥436 (about £2.50!!). It was an amazing experience!

(These fried pumpkin slices were divine, the perfect balance of sweet and savory, and only ¥100!)

In the second photo, the computer screen shows English, how come? Can you select a language?
